Meet Jonathan

Hello
Welcome. I would like to tell you about who I am and why I started Motor Mind. First a little history about me. I love cars. Ever since I was a little boy, I would day dream about cool cars I wish I owned. I still have lofty dreams to this day. I knew I liked working on cars, but I honestly did not think my journey would unfold this way. When I entered college, it was an easy choice to major in Automotive Technology at Brigham Young University - Idaho. As I navigated through college, I realized that there were so many different avenues to take in the automotive industry. During this time of navigation, I began to doubt my abilities as an automotive technician. This doubt grew due to getting frustrated easily while working in my labs. I felt I would never be proficient as a technician. Thus, at some point before I graduated I decided to focus on other possibilities in the industry. It was when I graduated when everything changed.
Upon graduating with my Bachelor's in Automotive Technology, I planned to seek a career in the industrial market. While making plans, a former employer informed me of a local independent repair facility seeking a service writer. I felt that this would be a good opportunity for temporary employment since I felt that my people skills were greater than my technical skills. Upon interviewing with the owner, who I knew, he quickly denied my inquiry in being a service writer and requested that I work for him as a technician. That frightened me! How could he think I would be a good technician, when I didn't think I would be good technician; but he believed in me, even when I didn't believe in myself. So I committed my self 100%; and the rest is history. For four years my confidence in myself grew to such great heights, I realized that I enjoyed problem solving, being thorough, seeking ways to be more effective, and most of all, helping our customers. During this time I began to enjoy talking with customers, explaining what I repaired on their car, and why it was needed. It was satisfying to explain automotive principles to people in such a way that provided context to my work. Along with improving my educating skills, I received my ASE Master Tech certification. These experiences, and many more helped me to realize that I had a valuable service to offer.
